Composition

Tab 40 mg/80 mg: Azilsartan medoxomil 40 mg/80 mg.

Indications & Dosage

Hypertension: Adult: Initially 40 mg once daily, increased if necessary to 80 mg once daily. Elderly: Above 75 yrs: Initially 20 to 40 mg once daily, increased if necessary to 80 mg once daily. Hypertension with intravascular volume depletion: Adult: Adult: Initially 20 to 40 mg daily, increased if necessary to 80 mg daily.

Precautions

Heart failure, anaesthesia, Severe renal impairment; monitor serum potassium and creatinine, renal artery stenosis, aortic or mitral stenosis, kidney transplant, obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, hyperkalaemia, severe congestive heart failure, mild to moderate hepatic impairment, primary hyperaldosteronism. Elderly with persistent postural hypotension i.e. recurrent drop in systolic blood pressure, monitor BP thoroughly. Monitor plasma-potassium concentration, particularly in the elderly and in patients with renal impairment, correct volume/salt depletion before starting therapy.

Interactions

K+-sparing diuretics, K+-supplement, lithium.

Pregnancy

Avoid unless essential.

Lactation

Not recommended

Side Effects

Headache, abdominal pain, asthenia, diarrhoea, nausea, dizziness, hyperkalaemia, hypotension, postural hypotension, renal impairment, vertigo, vomiting, angioedema, myalgia, skin reactions. Rare: Arthralgia, abnormal hepatic function, thrombocytopenia.
