Indications & Dosage
immunization against tuberculosis: BY INTRADERMAL INJ: Adult & Children above 1yrs: 0.1 ml, to be injected at insertion of deltoid muscle onto humerus (keloid formation more likely with sites higher on arm); tip of shoulder should be avoided. Children 1-11 months: 0.05 ml, to be injected at insertion of deltoid muscle onto humerus (keloid formation more likely with sites higher on arm); tip of shoulder shouldbe avoided.
Contraindications
Generalized septic skin conditions, cancerous conditions & leukaemia, severe chronic visceral disorders; chronic nephritis, lipoid nephrosis, uncorrected cardiopathy, immunosuppression
Precautions
A lesion-free site should be used to administer BCG vaccine to patients with eczema. BCG can be associated with infantile vaccines; no other vaccination should be given for at least 1 month.
Side Effects
Prolonged ulceration at the injection site, subcutaneous abscess at the injection site. Rare: Disseminated complications, osteitis, osteomyelitis
