Composition
Cap 50/20 mg: Atenolol 50 mg and Nifedipine 20 mg
Indications & Dosage
Hypertension: Adult: 1 capsule daily, when calcium-channel blocker or beta-blocker alone proves inadequate, increased if necessary to 1 capsule twice daily Elderly: 1 capsule daily Angina: Adult: 1 capsule twice daily.
Contraindications
Severe renal impairment, severe hepatic impairment, bradycardia, cardiogenic shock, hypotension, metabolic acidosis, severe peripheral arterial circulatory disturbance, heart block, sick sinus syndrome, acute heart failure, aortic stenosis, acute coronary syndromes or IM.
Precautions
1st degree heart block, diabetics subject to frequent episodes of hypoglycaemia, thyrotoxicosis, IHD
Interactions
Calcium channel blockers with negative inotropic (diltiazem, verapamil)
Pregnancy
Use only if potential benefit outweighs risk
Lactation
Caution advised, avoid
Side Effects
Gastrointestinal disorder, hypersensitivity, lupus-like syndrome. Rare: Alopecia, dry mouth, hepatic disorders, mood altered, postural hypotension, psychosis, skin reactions, thrombocytopenia.
