Composition

Inj 500 mg/1 gm/2 gm: Cefepime HCI 500 mg/1 gm/2 gm; powder in vial.

Indications & Dosage

Lower Respiratory Infection: BY IV INJ: Adults: 1-2 gm every 12 hr for 10 days. Children: 2 month- 16 yrs: 50 mg/kg every 12 hr. Max: 1gm. Urinary Tract Infection: BY IM OR IV INJ: Adults: 0.5-1 gm every 12 hr for 7-10 days. In severe infection: 2 gm every 12 hr for 10 days. Children: 2 month-16 yrs: 50 mg/kg IV every 12 hr. Max: 1 gm. Skin & soft-tissue Infection: BY IV INJ: Adults: 2 gm every 12 hr for 10 days. Children: 2 months -16 yrs: 50 mg/kg IV every 12 hr. Max: 1gm.

Administration

Inject deep IM large muscle mass. Inject direct IV over 5 min. Infuse intermittent infusion over 30-60 min. IV Detail: pH 4-6. Reconstitute for IV using manufacturers guidelines. IM: Reconstitute 500 mg vial of drug with 1.3 ml of diluent, such as SWFI (or 1 gm vial with 2.4 ml of diluent). See drug to drug compatibility chart

Stable in D5LR, D5NS, D5W, D1OW, NS, bacteriostatic water, SWFI. Y-site

Stability

In the dry state store at 2C-25C. Protect from light. Reconstituted solution may be stored up to 24 hours at controlled room temperature 20C -25C, or 7 days in a refrigerator, 2C-8C.

Precautions

GI disease (especially colitis); prolonged use; renal impairment; children under 12 years of age.
