Composition
Cap/Tab 200 mg/400 mg: Cefixime 200 mg/400 mg. Susp/Syp100 mg/200 mg: Per 5 ml: Cefixime 100 mg/200 mg.
Indications & Dosage
Acute infections due to sensitive Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, Upper & Lower Respiratory Infection, Urinary Tract Infection: Adult: 200-400 mg daily in 1-2 divided doses. Children 6-11 months: 75 mg daily; 1-4 years: 100 mg daily; 5-9 years: 200 mg daily; 10-17 years: 200-400 mg daily, alternatively100-200 mg twice daily Uncomplicated gonorrhea, Otitis Media: Adults & Children 12 yrs: 400 mg once daily or 200 mg every 12 hr; 6 months- 12 yrs: 8 mg/ kg once daily or 4 mg/kg every 12 hr.
Precautions
Severe hepatic and renal impairment, hypersensitivity to B-lactams.
Interactions
Anticoagulants, probenecid, carbamazepine.
Pregnancy
No evidence of risk Inj humans.
Lactation
Caution advised or effect undetermined.
Side Effects
Abdominal discomfort, agranulocytosis,allergic reactions,anaphylaxis, aplastic anaemia, blood disorders, confusion, disturbances in liver enzymes, dizziness, eosinophilia, haemolytic anaemia, hallucinations, headache, hypertonia, leucopenia, nervousness, pruritus, rashes, fever and arthralgia, sleep disturbances, urticaria, GI disturbances, Rare: Stevens-Johnson syndrome, thrombocytopenia, toxic epidermal necrolysis, transient cholestatic jaundice, transient hepatitis
