Composition
In] 500 mg/1 gm: Kanamycin sulphate 500 mg/1 gm; vial.
Indications & Dosage
Bacterial infections, Enteritis, Gonorrhoea, hepatic encephalopathy, Meningitis, Septicaemia, Tuberculosis and UTI, resistant to other antibiotics: BY IM INJ: Adults: 1 gm daily in two to four divided doses for max 6 days. Children: 15 mg/kg IM daily in two to four divided doses for max 6 days.
Administration
Administered by deep IM inj into the upper outer quadrant of the gluteal muscles or by intermittent IV infusion over 30-60 min at a conc. of 2.5-5 mg/ml in D5W or NS, can also be administered by intraperitoneal instillation and irrigation
Precautions
Myasthenia gravis, Parkinsonism. Control blood levels and total dosage particularly in renal impairment.
Interactions
Neuromuscular blocking drugs, anaesthetic, ethacrynic acid, furosemide.

Side Effects
Auditory damage, impaired neuromuscular transmission, irreversible ototoxicity, nephrotoxicity, transient myasthenic syndrome in patients with normal neuromuscular function with large doses given during surgery, vestibular damage. Rare: Antibiotic-associated colitis, electrolyte disturbances, hypocalcaemia, hypokalaemia, hypomagnesaemia on prolonged therapy, nausea, peripheral neuropathy, stomatitis, vomiting, blood disorders, CNS effects, convulsions, encephalopathy, rash
