Composition
Oral Gel: Per gm: Miconazole nitrate 20 mg.
Indications & Dosage
Oropharyngeal candidiasis: Adults: 2.5 ml four times daily. Children 4 months to 2 yrs: 1.25ml four times daily. Apply directly with finger.Retain gel in mouth as long as possible. GI Tract Candidiasis: Adult: 5mg/kg four times daily, max 250mg. Children above 4 months: same as adult, after all meals continue treatment for 7 days after healing.
Contraindications
Impaired swallowing reflex, first 5 - 6 months preterm-infant, hepatic impairment
Precautions
Avoid in acute porphyria, Pregnancy, Lactation.
Interactions
Oral Anticoagulants, protease inhibitors, calcium channel blockers, mizolastine, midazolam, oral hypoglycaemics and drugs that prolong QT interval.
Side Effects
Mild GI upset, irritation and sensitivity reactions, Stevens - Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis.
