Composition

Tab 2.5 mg/5 mg: Glibenclamide 2.5 mg/5 mg.

Indications & Dosage

Type 2 Diabetes mellitus, maturity-onset diabetes mellitus: Adult: Initially 5 mg daily, adjusted according to response, dose to be taken with or immediately after breakfast; max. 15 mg per day. Children: Not recommended.

Contraindications

Acute porphyria, renal and hepatic disease, diabetic coma insulin-dependent diabetes.

Precautions

Cross-sensitivity to sulfonamides and sulfonamide derivative. Not licensed for use in breast feeding women with pre-existing diabetes and gestational diabetes

Interactions

Potentiation of hypoglycaemic effects with alcohol, beta-blockers, bezafibrate, biguanides, chloramphenicol, clofibrate, coumarin derivatives, MAOIs, salicylates, tetracyclines, attenuation and aggravation of metabolic states by laxatives, corticosteroids, nicotinic acid, oestrogens, phenothiazine derivatives, saluretics, sympathomimetics, thyroid hormones

Lactation

Contraindicated or not recommended.

Side Effects

Thrombocytopenia, aplastic anemia, hemolytic anemia, cholestatic jaundice, fictitious hypoglycaemia, agranulocytosis, hepatitis, nausea and sensation of fullness, transient visual disturbance, blood dyscrasias.
