Indications & Dosage
Symptomatic anaemia associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD) in patients receiving dialysis for atleast 4 months: Adult: Starting dose: Pre-treatment Hemoglobin level <9 g/dL: 4mg once daily; Pre-treatment Hemoglobin level >9 to <10 g/dL: 2mg once daily; Pre-treatment Hemoglobin level >9 g/dL: 1mg once daily. Dosage adjustment as per response. Symptomatic anaemia associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD) in patients currently treated with an erythropoiesis-stimulating agent: Adult: (consult product literature).

Precautions
Active infection. Caution in moderate hepatic impairment; use half the normal starting dose, avoid in severe impairment. Pre-treatment screening: Ensure adequate iron stores before treatment. Monitor haemoglobin concentration every 2 weeks until the desired haemoglobin concentration is achieved and stabilised, then every 4 weeks thereafter or as clinically indicated.

Side Effects
Increased risk of death, myocardial infarction, stroke, venous thromboembolism and thrombosis of vascular access, risk of heart failure, hypertension, GI erosion, increased risk of infection.
