Composition
Susp: Per 5 ml:Trimebutine maleate 24 mg. Tab 100 mg/200 mg: Trimebutine maleate 100 mg/200 mg.
Indications & Dosage
Smooth muscle spasm, digestive disorders, flatulence, irritable bowel syndrome: Adults: 200 mg three times daily, max 600 mg daily. Children: Not recommended.
Contraindications
Myasthenia gravis (but may be used to decrease muscarinic side-effects of anticholinesterases), paralytic ileus, pyloric stenosis, toxic megacolon, and prostatic enlargement, coma, stupor, iodine sensitivity.
Precautions
Downs syndrome, elderly, gastro-esophageal reflux disease, ulcerative colitis, autonomic neuropathy, acute myocardial infarction, hypertension, conditions characterized by tachycardia (including hyperthyroidism, cardiac insufficiency, cardiac surgery), pyrexia, and in individuals susceptible to angle-closure glaucoma.
Interactions
Amantadine,digoxin, phenothiazines atenolol, tricyclic antidepressants.

Side Effects
Constipation, transient bradycardia (followed by tachycardia, palpitation and arrhythmias), reduced bronchial secretions, urinary urgency and retention, dilatation of the pupils with loss of accommodation, photo-phobia, dry mouth, flushing and dryness of the skin, confusion (particularly in the elderly), nausea, vomiting, and giddiness. Rare: Angle-closure glaucoma may occur.
