Composition

Cap 25 mg/50 mg/75 mg/100 mg/150 mg/200 mg/300 mg: Pregabalin 25 mg/50 mg/75 mg/100 mg/150mg/200 mg/300 mg.

Indications & Dosage

Peripheral and central neuropathic pain: Adult: Initially 150 mg daily in 2-3 divided doses, then increased after 3-7 days if necessary to 300 mg daily in 2-3 divided doses, then increased after 7 days if necessary up to 600 mg daily in 2-3 divided doses. Adjunctive therapy for focal seizures with or without secondary generalization: Adult: Initially 25 mg twice daily, then increased at 7 day intervals in steps of 50 mg daily, increased to 300 mg daily in 2-3 divided doses for 7 days, then increased if necessary up to 600 mg daily in 2-3 divided doses. Generalized anxiety disorder: Adult: Initially 150 mg daily in 2-3 divided doses, then increased at 7 day intervals in steps of 150 mg daily if required, increased if necessary up to 600 mg daily in 2-3 divided doses.

Precautions

Conditions that may precipitate encephalopathy, severe congestive heart failure. Avoid abrupt withdrawal (taper over at least 1 week), renal and hepatic impairment.

Interactions

Oxycodone, ethanol, lorazepam.

Pregnancy

Avoid unless the potential benefit outweighs the risk.

Lactation

Contraindicated, avoid

Side Effects

Aggression, blurred vision, confusion, constipation, diplopia, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, lack in muscle control and movement, euphoria, flatulence, impaired memory and attention, insomnia, irritability, malaise, oedema, paraesthesia, sexual dysfunction, speech disorder, visual disturbances, visual field defects, vomiting, weight gain. Rare: congestive heart failure, convulsions, diarrhoea, encephalopathy, headache, keratitis, nausea, pruritus, QT-interval prolongation, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, suicidal ideation, urinary retention
