Composition
Tab 5 mg/10 mg: Cyclobenzaprine 5 mg/10 mg. SR Cap/Cap XL 15 mg/30 mg: Cyclobenzaprine 15 mg/30 mg.
Indications & Dosage
Treatment of muscle spasm associated with acute painful musculoskeletal conditions: Adults: Initially 5 mg 3 times a day, increased to 10 mg 3 times/day if needed; dose not to be used longer than 3 weeks. Elderly: 5 mg 3 times a day; dose not to be used longer than 3 weeks. Children: Not recommended.
Contraindications
Do not use concomitantly or within 14days of MAO inhibitors, hyperthyroidism, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, acute recovery phase of MI.
Precautions
Cyclobenzaprine shares the toxic potentials of the tricyclic antidepressants and the usual precautions of tricyclic antidepressant therapy should be observed, use with caution in patients with urinary hesitancy, angle-closure glaucoma, hepatic impairment, elderly
Interactions
CYP1A2 inhibitors. TCAD, anticholinergics. CNS depressants, MAO inhibitors, tramadol
Pregnancy
Caution advised, use only if potential benefit outweighs risk
Lactation
Caution advised.
Side Effects
Agitation, anxiety, ataxia, cardiovascular depression, confusion, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, euphoria, GI disturbances, hallucinations, headache, hyperhidrosis, hypotension, insomnia, myalgia, nightmares, rash, respiratory depression, sedation, seizure, tremor, urinary disturbances, visual disorders, abdominal pain, xerostomia.
