Composition

Oint/Cream/Lotion/Gel: Betamethasone dipropionate 0.05%.

Indications & Dosage

Severe inflammatory skin disorders such as eczemas, lichen simplex and planus, otitis externa, prurigo, seborrhoeic dermatitis and contact dermatitis, Psoriasis, dermatoses of the scalp: Adults & Children: Apply thinly to affected areas only, no more frequently than twice daily.

Contraindications

Acne, perioral dermatitis, widespread plaque psoriasis, rosacea, bacterial, fungal or viral skin lesions such as impetigo, paronychia, erysipelas, cellulitis, angular cheilitis, erythrasma, treatment of rosacea, peri-oral dermatitis or acne, use on face, groin or axilla

Precautions

Avoid prolonged use, keep away from eyes, under specialist supervision in psoriasis (can result in rebound relapse, development of generalized pustular psoriasis, and local and systemic toxicity) Do not use steroid as sole therapy in psoriasis. Do not use steroids to treat diaper dermatoses in infants. If local irritation develops discontinue use.

Side Effects

Burning, itching, irritation, erythema, dryness, folliculitis, hypertrichosis, pruritus, acne form eruptions, hypo-pigmentation, peri-oral dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis, maceration of the skin, thinning of the skin (the original structure may never return), worsening of acne and rosacea, skin atrophy, striae, malaria, telangiectasia. Rare: Adrenal suppression, Cushings syndrome
