Composition

Tab 250 mg/500 mg: Methyldopa 250 mg/500 mg.

Indications & Dosage

Hypertension: Adult: Initially 250 mg 2-3 times a day, dose should be increased gradually at intervals of at least 2 days; max. 3 g per day Elderly: Initially 125 mg twice daily, dose should be increased gradually; max. 2 g per day Children: Not recommended.

Contraindications

Acute porphyria, depression, phaeochromocytoma, liver disaese.

Precautions

History of depression, haemolytic anaemia, history of liver disorder, renal impairment, anaesthesia

Interactions

Tricyclic, MAOIs, other anti-hypertensives, rau-yr/raffia alkaloids, hydralazine.

Side Effects

Amenorrhoea, arthralgia, asthenia, Bells palsy, bone-marrow depression, bradycardia, depression, dizziness, eosinophilia, exacerbation of angina, GI disturbances, gynaecomastia, haemolytic anaemia, hyperprolactinaemia, liver disorder, impotence, leucopenia, mild psychosis, myalgia, myocarditis, oedema. Pancreatitis, paraesthesia, pericarditis, postural hypotension, sialadenitis, thrombocytopenia, toxic epidermal necrolysis
