Composition
Inj/Tab: Ephedrine HCI 30 mg.
Indications & Dosage
Reversal of hypotension from spinal or epidural Anaesthesia: BY SLOW IV INJ: Adult: 3-6 mg every 3-4 minutes (max. per dose 9 mg), adjusted according to response; max.30 mg per course. Children 1-12 yr: 500-750 mcg/kg or 17-25 mg/square meter every 3-4 min according to response, max 30 mg during episode; 12-18 yr: 3-7.5 mg, max 9 mg repeated every 3-4 minutes according to response, max 30 mg per course. Reversible airways obstruction: ORAL: Adult: 15-60 mg 3 times a day Children above 4 yr: 10 mg three times daily. Neuropathic oedema: ORAL: Adult: 30-60 mg 3 times a day.
Administration
Administer by SC, IM or slow IV route,IV injection of a solution containing ephedrine hydro-chloride 3 mg/ml
Compatibility
ompatible with D5W, 010W, Ringer solution, LR, NS, 0.45% NS.
Contraindications
Coronary disease, hyperthyroidism, hypertension, prostatic hypertrophy, closed angle glaucoma, hyperexcitibility
Precautions
Diabetes, severe renal and hepatic impairment, cardiac disorder
Interactions
MAOls, anaesthetics, TCADs.

Side Effects
GI distress, headache, nausea, anxiety, restlessness, insomnia, tremor, arrhythmia.
