Composition
Tab 1 mg/2 mg/3 mg: Eszopiclone 1 mg/2 mg/3 mg.
Indications & Dosage
Insomnia (short-term use): Adults: 2 mg before bedtime; may be increased to 3 mg; max duration of treatment is 4 weeks. Elderly: 1 mg; may be increased to 2 mg. Children: Not recommended.
Contraindications
Respiratory failure, marked neuromuscular respiratory weakness including unstable myasthenia gravis, severe sleep apnoea syndrome.
Precautions
Muscle weakness and myasthenia gravis, history of drug abuse, psychiatric illness, elderly; avoid prolonged use (risk of tolerance and withdrawal symptoms). Driving, drowsiness may persist the next day and affect performance of skilled tasks (e.g. driving); effects of alcohol enhanced.
Pregnancy
Use only if potential benefit outweighs risk
Lactation
Contraindicated, avoid
Side Effects
Amnesia, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, headache, taste disturbance, nausea, vomiting; rarely ataxia, confusion, depression, hallucinations, nightmares; very rarely light headedness, in-coordination; paradoxical effects.
