Composition

Cap/Tab 125 mg/500 mg: Griseofulvin 125 mg/500 mg. Susp: Per 5 ml: Griseofulvin 125 mg.

Indications & Dosage

Dermatophyte infections of the skin, scalp, hair and nails where topical therapy has failed or is inappropriate: Adult: 500 mg once daily or in divided doses, increased if necessary to 1 g daily, for severe infections; reduce dose according to response. Children less than 50 kg body weight: 15-20 mg/kg once daily or in divided doses. Tineacapitis caused by Trichophytontonsurans: Adult: 1 g once daily, alternatively 1 g daily in divided doses. Children less than 50 kg body weight: 15-20 mg/kg once daily or in divided doses.

Contraindications

Severe liver disease, acute porphyria systemic lupus erythematosus (risk of exacerbation)

Precautions

May impair performance of skilled tasks (e.g. driving); effects of alcohol enhanced.

Interactions

Warfarin type anticoagulant, barbiturates, coumarins, oral contraceptives.

Abdominal pain, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea; dyspepsia, hepatotoxicity, glossitis, taste disturbances, sleep disturbances, dizziness, fatigue, confusion, agitation, depression, impaired coordination and hearing, peripheral neuropathy, menstrual disturbances, renal failure, leucopenia, systemic lupus erythematosus, rash (including rarely erythema multiforme, toxic epidermal necrolysis), and photosensitivity
