Composition
Tab150/12.5 mg:Irbesartan 150 mg, hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg. Tab300/12.5 mg:Irbesartan 300 mg, hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg. Tab300/25 mg:Irbesartan 300 mg, hydrochlorothiazide 25
Indications & Dosage
Hypertension not adequately controlled with irbesartan alone: Adults: 1 tab daily max daily dose; 300 mg irbesar-tan & 25 mg hydrochlorothiazide. Children: Not recommended.
Contraindications
Severe renal or hepatic impairment; refractory hyperkalaemia, hypercalcaemia; biliary cirrhosis or cholestasis.
Precautions
Correct volume/salt depletion before starting ther-apy, anaesthesia, renal impairment; monitor serum potassium and creatinine, severe renal impairment, haemodialysis; carefully titrate dose and monitor BP thoroughly, renal artery stenosis, aortic or mitral stenosis, kidney transplant, obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, severe congestive heart failure, mild to moderate hepatic impairment, primary hyperaldosteronism, primary aldosteronism, hypertensive patients with type 2 diabetes & renal disease, hyperkalaemia. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery.
Interactions
Diuretics & other antihypertensive agents, K supplements and K-sparing diuretics, lithium, hydrochlorothiazide may interact with alcohol, barbiturates, narcotics, antidiabetics, cholestyramine, corticosteroids, ACTH, pres-soramines, skeletal muscle relaxants, NSAIDs
Pregnancy
Contraindicated in pregnancy.
Lactation
Not recommended.
Side Effects
Hyperkalaemia, angioedema, symptomatic hypotension including dizziness particularly in patients with intravascular volume depletion, e.g. those taking high-dose diuretics,, arthralgia, rhinitis, flatulence, hypertriglyceridaemia, musculoskeletal trauma, nausea/vomiting, abnormal urination.
