Tab: Selegiline 5 mg.
Indications & Dosage
Parkinsons disease, used alone or as adjunct to cobeneldopaor co-careldopa to reduce 'end of dose' deterioration, Symptomatic parkinsonism: Adult: Initially 5 mg once daily for 2-4 weeks, then increased if tolerated to 10 mg daily, dose to be taken in the morning.
Contraindications
Active gastric or duodenal ulceration, avoid or use with great caution in postural hypotension (when used in combination with levodopa)
Precautions
Avoid in acute porphyrias, caution with angina, arrhythmias, history of hepatic dysfunction, patients predisposed to confusion and psychosis, psychosis, uncontrolled hypertension, severe renal or hepatic impairment, avoid abrupt withdrawal
Pregnancy
Avoid unless potential benefit outweighs risk.
Lactation
Contraindicated, avoid
Side Effects
Arthralgia, agitation, anxiety, angina, bradycardia, confusion, constipation, depression, diarrhoea, dizziness, dry mouth, fatigue, hair loss, headache, hypertension, hypotension, impaired balance, mouth ulcers, movement disorders, muscle cramps, myalgia, myopathy, nasal congestion, nausea, psychosis, sleeping disorders, stomatitis, sweating, tremor. Rare: Arrhythmias, blurred vision, dyspnea, leucocytopenia, palpitation, postural hypotension, skin reactions
