Composition

Inf 20%:Safflower oil, egg yolk phospholipid, glycerine. Osmolarity: 20% inf, 340 mosm/lit. Caloric content: 20% Inf 2.0 Kcal/ml.

Indications & Dosage

Convalescence and disease where patients require parenteral nutrition: Administered as part of a TPN programme via peripheral vein or central venous catheter

Contraindications

Disturbances in normal fat metabolism, such as pathogenic hyperlipidaemia, lipid nephrosis or acute pancreatitis if accompanied by hyperaemia. Should not be mixed with electrolytes, or other additive solutions

Precautions

Jaundice and premature infants. Interactions: Do not add medicines or electrolytes directly to the lipid emulsion.

Side Effects

Thrombophlebitis, hyperlipidaemia, dyspnoea, cyanosis flushing, dizziness, headache, sleepiness, nausea, vomiting, hyperthermia. In long term therapy hepatomegaly, jaundice, splenomegaly, thrombocytopenia, leucopenia may occur.
