Tab 10 mg/25 mg/50 mg/75 mg: Maprotiline HCI 10 mg/25 mg/50 mg/75 mg
Indications & Dosage
Depressive illness: Adults: Initially 25-75 mg daily in one dose (usually at night) or three divided doses, adjusting after 1-2 weeks as necessary; max 150 mg daily. Elderly: Initially 30 mg at night or 10 mg three times daily.
Contraindications
Severe hepatic or renal disease, mania, history of epilepsy, narrow angle glaucoma, urinary retention, recent MI.
Precautions
Cardiovascular diseases, elderly. Maintain salt and fluid intake. Monitor renal, cardiac and thyroid function.
Interactions
MAOls, antihypertensives, sympathomimetics, barbiturates, antipsychotics, alcohol, anaesthetics.
Pregnancy
Avoid unless potential benefit outweighs risk
Lactation
Contraindicated, avoid
Side Effects
Anorexia, arrhythmia, arthralgia, blood dyscrasias, convulsions, hypomania, hypotension, disturbance of liver function, oedema, gynaecomastia, photosensitivity, pruritus, rash, sexual dysfunction, suicidal behavior, taste disturbance, tinnitus, urticaria, vomiting, weight changes. Rare: Dysarthria, extrapyramidal symptoms, paralytic ileus, tremor, urinary retention
