METRONIDAZOLE AND FURAZOLIDONE · by HIZAT
Composition
Susp: Per 5 ml: Metronidazole (as metronidazole benzoate) 75 mg, furazolidone 25 mg. Tab: Metronidazole 300 mg, furazolidone 100 mg.
Indications & Dosage
Diarrhoea and dysentery of all types including amoebic types: Adults: 1 tab 3 times daily. Children below 1 yr: 1/2 tsp suspension 4 times daily; 1-4 yr: 1 tsp suspension 4 times daily; 5 yr and above: 2 tsp suspension 4 times daily.
Precautions
CNS disorders, hepatic encephalopathy
Interactions
Alcohol, anticoagulants, phenobarbitone, lithium.
Pregnancy

Side Effects
CNS disturbances, GI disturbance, furred tongue, unpleasant taste, leucopenia, angioedema, dark urine, neuropathy and epilepti form seizures on Iongterm therapy, urticaria.
