Composition
Tab 100 mg: Artesunate 100 mg, sulfadoxine 500 mg and pyrimethamine 25 mg. Tab 50 mg: Artesunate 50 mg, sulfadoxine 500 mg and pyrimethamine 25 mg.
Indications & Dosage
Prophylaxis and treatment of plasmodium falciparum malaria: Adults & Children above 15 yrs: Prophylaxis: 1 tab of 100 mg weekly. Treatment: 2-3 tab of 100 mg as a single dose for 3 days. Children: As a single dose treatment: 4-8 yr: 1 tab of 50 mg; 9-14 yr: 2 tab of 50 mg. See literature.
Contraindications
Severe liver or kidney dysfunction, blood dyscrasias, neonates, Sulphonamide sensitivity.
Precautions
Perform regular blood counts during long-term prophylaxis. Avoid excess sunlight exposure
Interactions
Folate inhibitors.

Side Effects
Abdominal pain, diarrhoea, headache, fever, GI distress, blood dyscrasias, skin rash (discontinue immediately), Pharyngitis or pruritus occurs. Rare: erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, Lyells syndrome.
