Composition
Tab 100 mcg/200 mcg: Misoprostol 100 mcg/200 mcg.
Indications & Dosage
Benign gastric ulceration, Benign duodenal ulceration, NSAID-associated ulceration: Adult: 800 mcg daily in 2-4 divided doses for at least 4 weeks, may be continued for up to 8 weeks if required, dose to be taken with breakfast (or main meals) and at bedtime. Prophylaxis of NSAID-induced gastric ulcer, Prophylaxis of duodenal ulcer: Adult: 200 mcg 4 times a day, reduced if not tolerated to 200 mcg 2-3 times a day. Children: Not recommended.
Contraindications
Women of childbearing age.
Precautions
Conditions where hypotension might precipitate severe complications (e.g. cerebrovascular disease, cardiovascular disease).
Interactions
Antacids.
Pregnancy
Contraindicated in pregnancy.
Lactation
Not recommended.
Side Effects
Most common side effect is diarrhoea that may get severe and can be reduced by giving single doses not exceeding 200 mcg and by avoiding magnesium-containing antacids. Flatulence, dizziness, headache, abdominal pain, skin rashes, cramps, hypotension, nausea, vomiting, dysmenorrhea, hypermenorrhea, spoting.
