Composition

Cap/Dragees/Tab 100 mg/200 mg/335 mg/400 mg/600 mg: Alpha tocopherol acetate 100 mg/200 mg/335 mg/400 mg/600 mg. Inj: Per 2 ml: Alpha tocopherol acetate 100 mg.

Indications & Dosage

Vitamin E deficiency: ORAL: Adult: 100-200 mg daily. Children: Neonate, 10 mg/kg once daily; 1 month-18 yrs: 2-10 mg/kg daily, up to 20 mg/kg has been used. Vitamin E deficiency due to malabsorption in congenital or hereditary chronic cholestasis and liver disease: ORAL: Adult: 200 mg daily. Children: Neonate, 10 mg/kg daily; 1 month-12 yrs: Initially 100 mg daily, adjusted according to response; up to 200 mg/kg daily may be required; 12-18 yrs: initially 200 mg daily, adjusted according to response. By IM INJ: Neonate, 10 mg/kg once a month; 1 month-18 yrs: 10 mg/kg (max 100 mg) once a month. Malabsorption in cystic fibrosis: ORAL: Adult: 100-200 mg daily. Children 1 month-1 yrs: 50 mg once daily, adjusted as necessary; 1-12 yrs: 100 mg once daily, adjusted as necessary; 12-18 yrs: 100-200 mg once daily, adjusted as necessary. Malabsorption in abetalipoproteinaemia: Adult: 50-100 mg/kg daily. Children: Neonate, 100 mg/kg once daily; 1 month-18 yrs: 50-100 mg/kg once daily.

Precautions

May induce vitamin K deficiency; predisposition to thrombosis; necrotizing enterocolitis with large oral dosage inneonates.

Side Effects

Diarrhoea, headache, disturbances in serum-potassium and serum-sodium concentration, alopecia, pruritus, rash, asthenia, may impair the haematological response to iron in children with iron-deficiency anaemia.
