Composition

Cap 400 mg:Piracetam 400 mg Inj 1 gm: Per 5 ml: Piracetam 1 gm; amp Inj 200 mg: Per ml: Piracetam 200 mg. Syp 1 gm: Per 5 ml: Piracetam 1 gm. Soln 200 mg: Per ml: Piracetam 200 mg. Tab 400 mg

Indications & Dosage

Adjunctive treatment of cortical myoclonus: Adult: Initially 7.2 g daily in 2-3 divided doses, then increased in steps of 4.8 g every 3-4 days, adjusted according to response, subsequently, attempts should be made to reduce dose of concurrent therapy; max. 24 g per day. BY IV INJ: Adults: 1 gm IV 3 times per day. In sub-acute indications: Adults: 3 amps twice daily; Acute indications: Adults: 3 amp four times daily. Children: 30-50 mg/kg/day.

Administration

The injectable ampoules administered IV over several mins. The infusion is administered continuously at the recommended daily dose over a 24 hr period.

Contraindications

Huntingtons chorea, severe renal insufficiency, hepatic impairment, cerebral haemorrhage.

Precautions

Gastric ulcer, history of haemorrhagic stroke, increased risk of bleeding, major surgery, underlying disorders of haemostasis, renal impairment, elderly. Withdraw therapy gradually.

Thyroid hormones.

Abdominal pain, anxiety, asthenia, ataxia, confusion, depression, dermatitis, diarrhoea, drowsiness, hyperkinesia, nervousness, weight gain, haemorrhagic disorder, hallucination, headache, insomnia, nausea, pruritus, urticaria, vertigo, vomiting, rash.
