Composition
Tab: Calendar pack containing 11 tab of estradiol valerate each and 10 tab of 2 mg estradiol valerate and 0.5, mg norgestrel each.
Indications & Dosage
Primary and secondary amenorrhoea, Prophylaxis of postmenopausal osteoporosis: Adults (female): 1 tab daily without break in medication, starting with tab from blue section of pack on 5th day of menses or at any time in cases of oligo-menorrhoea. Children: Not applicable.
Contraindications
History of, or predisposition to, thrombophlebitis, thromboembolic disorders, cerebrovascular disease, history of pruritus, during pregnancy deteriorating otosclerosis, idiopathic jaundice or pemphigoid gestations (herpes gestations), impaired hepatic excretory function such as Dubin-Johnson & Rotor syndromes, sickle cell anaemia, acute or chronic liver disease, jaundice, porphyria, disorders of lipid metabolism, Oestrogen carcinomas, endometriosis, undiagnosed genital bleeding, pregnancy, lactation.
Precautions
Hypertension, myocardial or renal disease, asthma, varicose veins, epilepsy, chloasma, uterine fibro-myomata. Examine BP pelvic organs & breasts before & regularly during treatment.
Interactions
Diuretics, antihypertensives, liver enzyme inducing drugs.
Side Effects
Nausea, vomiting, weight gain, breast tenderness & enlargement, withdrawal bleeding, sodium retention with oedema, liver function disorders, jaundice, rashes, chloasma, headache, endometrial carcinoma in postmenopausal women.
