Indications & Dosage

Chronic hepatitis C in patients positive for HCV antibodies with elevated Alanine Transaminase levels and intolerance or contraindication to ribavirin: BY SC INJ: Adults: 0.5 mcg or 1 mcg/kg once weekly for 6 months. Continue for additional 6 months in patients showing loss of HCV-RNA at 6 months.

Administration

Administer by SC. Reconstitute with only 0.7 ml of the 1.25 ml of SWFI. The diluent is single use only. The reconstituted solution should be clear and colourless.

Compatibility

Sterile water for injection.

Stability

Protect from light. Intact vial may be stored at room temperature for up to 14 days. Refrigerate at 2C-8C. Do not freeze or shake. Prefilled syringe may be stored at room temperature for up to 6 days.

Contraindications

Severe cardiac disease or psychiatric disorder, uncontrolled thyroid disease, other debilitating medical conditions, autoimmune disease, severe hepatic dysfunction CNS dysfunction,

Precautions

Moderate to severe renal impairment, coagulation disorders, psoriasis, sarcoidosis, myelosuppression, monitor patients with congestive heart failure, myocardial infarction, arrhythmias, ocular effects. Maintain adequate hydration.

Interactions

Substrates of CYP2D6 (flecainide) and CYP 2CB/9 (warfariniphenytoin) methadone.

Side Effects

Anorexia,diarrhoea, influenza-likesymptoms,lethargy, nausea, alopecia,arrhythmias,cardiovascular problems, coma (usually with high doses in the elderly), confusion, depression, hepatotoxicity, hyperglycaemia, hypersensitivity reactions, hypertension, hypertriglyceridaemia (sometimes severe), hypotension, myelosuppression (particularly affecting granulocytecounts), nephrotoxicity, ocular side-effects, palpitation, psoriasiform rash, seizures (usually with high doses in the elderly), suicidal behavior, thyroid abnormalities, prolongation of coagulation markers, pulmonary infiltrates or severe CNS effects occur.
