Composition
Tab 125 mg/250 mg/300 mg/500 mg/600 mg/1 gm: Penicillin V 125 mg/250 mg/300 mg/500 mg/600 mg/1 gm. Susp125 mg/250 mg: Per 5 ml: Penicillin V 125 mg/250 mg. Susp200 mg/400 mg: Penicillin V 200
Indications & Dosage
Upper Respiratory Infection (Streptococcal): Adults & Children 12 yrs: 125-500 mg every 6 hr for 10 days. Lower Respiratory Infection (Pneumococcal): Adults & Children 12yrs: 250-500 mg every 6 hr until a febrile for 2 days. Skin Infection: Adults & Children above 12 yrs: 250-500 mg every 6-8 hr. Fusospirochetosis (Oropharynx): Adults & Children above12 yrs: 250-500 mg every 6-8.hr. Pneumococcal: Adults & Children above 12 yrs: 250-500 mg every 6 hr until afebrile for 2 days.
Precautions
Avoid small ineffective doses of penicillin as resistant organisms are more likely to emerge, therapy must be sufficient to eliminate the streptococcal organism (a minimum of ten days), otherwise the sequela of streptococcal disease (endocarditis, rheumatic fever) may occur. Serious fatal immediate hypersensitivity (anaphylactoid) reactions have been reported. Do not inject par-enteral solutions into or near an artery or nerve

Side Effects
GI disturbances, anaemias, anaphylaxis, glossitis, stomatitis, gastritis, sore throat, dry mouth, furry tongue, Hemorrhagic manifestation, interstitial nephritis (e.g oliguria, hematuria), nephrotoxicity, accumulation of sodium from injection can occur in renal failure. High doses may cause neurotoxicity, including cerebral irritation, convulsions, or coma.
