Indications & Dosage
Malaria suppressive: ORAL: Adults: 500 mg at weekly intervals. Children: 5 mg/kg (as chloroquine base) at weekly intervals. Malaria therapeutic: ORAL: Adults: 1000 mg initially then 500 mg daily. Hepatic amoebiasis: ORAL: Adults: 500-1000 mg daily. Cerebral malaria: BY IM OR IV INJ: Adults: 200-300 mg (chloroquine base).
Administration
Administered by IV or IM injection. Stable in NS
Stability
Store at 25C (77F). Excursions permitted to 15C-30C (59F-86F).
Precautions
Impaired renal or hepatic function, history of epilepsy, psoriasis, porphyria, myastheniagravis, severe gastrointestinal, neurological or blood disor-ders, porphyria.Perform eye test before & during long-term therapy.
Interactions
Antacids, kaolin, cimetidine, mefloquine, cyclo-sporin, rabies vaccine, anticoagulants, amiodarone, digoxin, neostigmine, pyridostigmine, moxifloxacin.
Pregnancy
use only if potential benefit outweighs risk.
Lactation
Contraindicated or not recommended.
