Composition
Tab 400 mg/800 mg: Sevelamer Hydrochloride 400 mg/800 mg.
Indications & Dosage
Hyperphosphataemia in patients on haemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis or patients with chronic kidney disease not on dialysis who have a serum-phosphate concentration of 1.78 mmol/litre or more: Adult: Initially 2.4-4.8 g daily in 3 divided doses to be taken with meals and adjusted according to serum-phosphate concentration every 2-4 weeks; usual dose 6 g daily in 3 divided doses.
Contraindications
Bowel obstruction, hypophosphataemia.
Precautions
GI disorder, swallowing disorders, severe gastro-paresis, diverticulosis, gastric retention, active inflammatory bowel disease, gastric motility disorders, history of major GI surgery and long term use. Monitor serum electrolyte levels. Vitamins may be required.
Interactions
Cyclosporin, mycophenolate, tacrolimus, levothyroxine, ciprofloxacin, antiarrhythmics, anticonvulsants.

Side Effects
GI disturbance, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhoea, dyspepsia, flatulence, nausea, vomiting. Rare: Ileus, intestinal obstruction, diverticulosis, intestinal perforation, pruritus rash
