Composition
Syp: Per 10 ml: Pizotifen (as hydrogen maleate) 0.5 mg. Tab: Pizotifen (as hydrogen maleate) 0.5 mg; sugar-coated tab.
Indications & Dosage
Anorexia, mood elevation in the elderly, prophylactic treatment of migraine: Adults: Starting with 10 ml per day, may be increased to 10 ml 3 times a day. Children 2-6 yrs: 5-10 ml of daily; 6-12 yrs: 10-20 ml daily in 2 or 3 divided doses, maintenance doses, 5 ml/kg body-wt daily.
Precautions
Patients with narrow angle glaucoma or urinary retention (due to slight anticholinergic effect of pizotifen), pregnancy and lactation.
Interactions
Sedatives, hypnotics, antihistamines, alcohol.
Side Effects
Sedation, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation.
