Composition
Inj: Per ml: Dexmedetomidine as hydrochloride 100 mcg, 2 vial x 2ml
Indications & Dosage
Maintenance of sedation during intensive care: BY IV INF: Adult: 0.7 microgram/kg/hr, adjusted according to response; usual dose 0.2-1.4 mcg/kg/hr.
Administration
To be diluted before use. For IV infusion given continuously in Glucose 5% or Sodium chloride 0.9%, dilute to a concentration of 4 mcg/ml
Stability
Stored at controlled room temperature. Freezing should be avoided.
Contraindications
Acute cerebrovascular disorders, second- or third-degree AV block (unless pacemaker fitted), uncontrolled hypotension
Precautions
Severe cerebrovascular disease, ischaemic heart disease, abrupt withdrawal after prolonged use, bradycardia, malignant hyperthermia, severe neurological disorders, spinal cord injury, hepatic impairment.

Drugs with CNS depressant effects
Pregnancy
Avoid unless potential benefit outweighs risk (toxicity)

Side Effects
Agitation, blood pressure changes, bradycardia, changes in blood sugar, dry mouth, hyperthermia, myocardial infarction, myocardial Ischaemia, nausea, tachycardia, vomiting, abdominal distension, AV block, decreased cardiac output, dyspnoea, hallucination, hypoalbuminaemia, metabolic acidosis, thirst
