Composition
lnj: Measles virus (attenuated Schwarz strain) not less than 1000 CCID50, mumps virus (RIT 4385 derived from Jeryl Lynn strain) not less than 5011 CCID50, rubella virus (Wistar RA27/3 strain)
Indications & Dosage
Primary immunization against measles, mumps, and rubella: BY IM INJ, OR BY DEEP SC INJ: First dose: Children 12-13 months: 0.5 ml for 1 dose; Second dose: Children 40 months-5 years: 0.5 ml for 1 dose. Rubella immunization (in seronegative women, susceptible to rubella and in unimmunised, seronegative women, post-partum): BY IM INJ, OR BY DEEP SC INJ: Females of childbearing potential: (consult product literature or local protocols). immunization for patients who have not completed the primary immunization course, Control of measles outbreak, immunization for patients travelling to areas where measles is endemic or epidemic, who have not completed the primary immunization: BY IM INJ, OR BY DEEP SC INJ: Adult & Children above 9 month: Consult product literature.
Contraindications
Pregnancy, Impaired immunity.
Precautions
Acute, severe febrile illness, history of convulsions, anaphylactic egg allergy. Evaluate serological status when second dose is due in children who developed thrombocytopenic purpura within 6 weeks of first dose, lactation. Antibody response to measles component maybe reduced after immunoglobulin administration or bloodtransfusion; leave an interval of at least 3 months beforeMMR immunization
Interactions
Do not give within 3 weeks of other live vaccines, or within 3 months of blood transfusion or immunoglobulins. Tuberculin test should be done before or simultaneously with vaccination.
Side Effects
Parotid swelling (usually in the third week), sleep disturbances, unusual crying in infants. Rare: Arthropathy (2 to 3 weeks after immunisation), idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura,optic neuritis, peripheral neuritis, malaise, fever, or a rash can occur after the first dose of MMR vaccine; most commonly about a week aftervaccination and lasting about 2 to 3 days, febrile seizures-occur rarely 6 to 11 days after MMRvaccination
