Composition
: Elixir/Syp: Per 5 ml: Promethazine HO 5 mg. Inj: Per ml: Promethazine HO 25 mg. Tab 10 mg/25 mg: Promethazine HCI 10 mg/25 mg.
Indications & Dosage
Symptomatic relief of allergy such as hay fever and Urticaria, Insomnia associated with urticaria andpruritus: ORAL: Adult: 10-20 mg 2-3 times a day Children 2-4 yrs: 5 mg twice daily, alternatively 5-15 mg once daily at night; 5-9 yrs: 5-10 mg twice daily, alternatively 10-25 mg once daily at night; 10-17 yrs: 10-20 mg 2-3 times a day, alternatively 25 mg once daily at night, increased if necessary to 25 mg twice daily. BY DEEP IM INJ: Adult: 25-50 mg (max. per dose 100 mg); may be repeated in 2 hr. Emergency treatment of anaphylactic reactions: BY SLOW IV INJ: Adult: 25-50 mg, to be administered as a solution containing 2.5 mg/ml in water for injections; max. 100 mg per course; may be repeated in 2 hr. Sedation (short-term use): ORAL: Adult & Children above 10 yrs: 25-50 mg. Children 2-4 yrs: 15-20 mg; 5-9 yrs: 20-25 mg. BY DEEP IM INJ: Adult: 25-50 mg every 6 hr as needed. Children: 0.5-1 mg/kg/dose every 6 hr as needed (max 25mg/dose). Nausea, Vomiting, Vertigo, Labyrinthine disorders, Motion sickness: ORAL: Adult & Children above 10 yrs: 20-25 mg at bedtime on night before travel, repeat following morning if necessary Children 2-4 yrs: 5 mg at bedtime on night before travel, repeat following morning if necessary; 5-9 yrs: 10 mg at bedtime on night before travel, repeat following morning if necessary. BY IM OR IV INJ: Adult: 12.5-25 mg every 4-6 hr as needed. Children: 0.25-1 mg/kg 4-6 times/day as needed.
Administration
Administer IM into deep muscle mass. IV ad-ministration is not preferred route. Solution for injection may be diluted in 25-100 ml NS or D5W (max conc. of 25 mg/ ml) and infuse over 15-30 min at a rate of 25 mg/min.
Compatibility
Stable in NS, D5W, 010W, D5NS, LR, 1/2NS, NS.
Stability
Store at controlled room temperature 20C-25C (68T-77T). Protect from light. Keep covered in carton until time of use. Do not use if solution has developed colour or contains a precipitate.

Alcohol, CNS depressants, MAOls.

Headache, drowsiness, impaired reactions, dizziness, disorientation, photosensitivity, extra-pyramidal reactions, convulsions (high doses).
