Composition
Inj: Per ml: Alprostadil 20 mcg, alpha-cyclodextrin646.7 mcg.
Indications & Dosage
Palliative therapy to temporarily maintain the patency of the ductus arteriosus until corrective or palliative surgery can be performed in neonates who have a ductus-dependent congenital heart defect: Neonates: Continuous IV INF beginning with 50-100 nanogram/kg/min; the doses reduced as soon as possible to the minimum necessary to maintain response. Lower doses may be effective in some patients. The dose may be increased to 400 nanograms/kg/min. May be administered by continuous INF through an umbilical artery catheter placed at the ductal opening.
Contraindications
Asthma, bronchspasm
Precautions
Patients with bleeding tendencies, sickle cell anaemia, leukemia, multiple myeloma and allergies. Blood pressure and respiratory status should be monitored.
Side Effects
Apnoea, seizure, fever, flushing, hypotension, bradycardia, tachycardia, diarrhoea, pyrexia, dizziness and convulsions.
