Composition

Tab 200 mg/550 mg: Rifaximin 200 mg/550 mg.

Indications & Dosage

Diarrhoea that is not associated with fever, bloody diarrhoea, blood or leucocytes in the stool, or 8 or more unformed stools in the previous 24 hours: Adult: 200 mg every 8 hours for 3 days. Reduction in recurrence of hepatic encephalopathy: Adult: 550 mg twice daily.

Contraindications

Intestinal obstruction, should not be used in patients with diarrhoea complicated by fever, rifamycin hypersensitivity

Precautions

Caution when used for hepatic encephalopathy in patients with severe hepatic impairment. If patients develop difficulty in breathing, swelling of face, lip, tongue, or throat discontinue.

Side Effects

Abdominal pain, depression, diarrhoea, dizziness, dyspnea, flatulence, headache, muscle spasm, nausea, pruritus, rash, vomiting, anorexia, antibiotic-associated colitis, anxiety, blood disorders, convulsions, dry mouth, dysuria, glycosuria, hyperkalaemia, hypoaesthesia, influenza-likesymptoms, memory impairment, paraesthesia, peripheral oedema, polymenorrhoea, polyuria, sleep disturbances, taste disturbances. Rare: Blood pressure changes, syncope
