Composition
Inhaler 25/125: Per actuation: Salmeterol xinafoate 25 mcg, fluticasone propionate 125 mcg: 120 actuations Inhaler 25/250: Per actuation: Salmeterol xinafoate 25 mcg, fluticasone propionate
Indications & Dosage
Treatment of asthma, treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease: Adults: 2 inhalations twice daily at lowest effective inhaled corticosteroid dose. Children above 4 yr:2 inhalations of Salmicort 25/50 preparation twice daily.
Precautions
Severe cardiovascular disorders, pulmonary tuberculosis, diabetes, hypokalaemia, thyrotoxicosis, pregnancy, lactation. Prolonged treatment with high doses increases risk of adrenal suppression and systemic effects; monitor adrenal function. Monitor height of children on prolonged therapy. Consider additional steroid therapy during stress or surgery. Withdraw gradually.
Interactions
Beta-blockers.
Side Effects
Headache, anxiety, depression, dryness, epistaxis, hyperactivity, hypersensitivity reactions, nasal irritation, nasal ulceration, sleep disturbances, smell disturbances, taste disturbances, oropharyngeal irritation. Rare: Paradoxical bronchospasm; discontinue immediately.
