Composition
Inj 10 mcg/20 mcg: Hepatitis B surface antigen 10 mcg/20 mcg/ml Absorbed onto aluminium hydroxide; susp, in vial.
Indications & Dosage
Active immunization against hepatitis B virus: BY IM INJ: Children 1 month-15 years: 10 mcg for 1 dose, then 10 mcg after 1 month for 1 dose, followed by 10 mcg after 5 months for 1 dose, deltoid muscle is preferred site of injection in older children; anterolateral thigh is preferred site in infants andyoung children; not to be injected into the buttock (vaccine efficacy reduced). Adult & Children above 15 yrs: 20 mcg for 1 dose, then 20 mcg after 1 month for 1 dose, followed by20 mcg after 5 months for 1 dose, deltoid muscle is preferred site of injection; not to be injected into the buttock (vaccine efficacy reduced).
Contraindications
Severe febrile infections, severely immunosuppressed patients should not be given live vaccines (including thosewith severe primary immunodeficiency)
Precautions
Dialysed or immunocompromised patients may need further doses.
Side Effects
Mild transient local soreness, erythema and induration at inj site, low grade fever, malaise, nausea, dizziness.
