Composition

Tab 100 mg/200 mg/300 mg: Trimethoprim 100 mg/200 mg/300 mg. Susp: Per 5 ml: Trimethoprim 50 mg.

Indications & Dosage

Urinary-tract infections, Respiratory tract infections: Adult & Children above 12 yrs: 200 mg twice daily; Children 4-5 weeks: 4 mg/kg twice daily (max. per dose200 mg); 6 weeks-5 months: 4 mg/kg twice daily (max. per dose 200 mg), alternatively 25 mg twice daily; 6 months-5 years: 4 mg/kg twice daily (max. per dose 200 mg), alternatively 50 mg twice daily; 6-11 years: 4 mg/kg twice daily (max. per dose 200 mg), alternatively 100 mg twice daily. Prophylaxis of urinary-tract infection, recurrent infection, significant urinary-tract anomalies, or significant kidney damage: Adult & Children above 12 yrs: 100 mg once daily; dose to be taken at night Children 4-5 weeks: 2 mg/kg once daily (max. per dose100 mg); 6 weeks-5 months: 2 mg/kg once daily (max. perdose 100 mg), alternatively12.5 mg once daily; 6 months-5 years: 2 mg/kg once daily (max. per dose 100 mg), alternatively25 mg once daily; 6-11 years: 2 mg/kg once daily (max. per dose100 mg), alternatively 50 mg once daily. All doses to be taken at night. Treatment of Pneumocystis jirovecii (Pneumocystis carinii) pneumonia: Adult & Children: 5 mg/kg every 6-8 hours Acne resistant to other antibacterials: Adult: 300 mg twice daily. Prostatitis: Adult: (consult product literature). Shigellosis, Invasive salmonella infection: Adult: (consult product literature).

Contraindications

Severe renal in sufficiency, Blood dyscrasias

Precautions

Impaired renal function, elderly , acute porphyrias, predisposition to folate deficiency. Perform regular blood tests during long term therapy.

Interactions

Phenytoin, ACE inhibitors, methotrexate, digoxin, dapsone, procainamide.

Abdominal discomfort, GI disturbance, allergic reactions, anaphylaxis, angioedema, erythema multiforme, photosensitivity, toxic epidermal necrolysis, aseptic meningitis, depression of haematopoiesis, hyperkalaemia, nausea, pruritus, rashes, uveitis (in adults),vomiting
