Composition

Tab 60 mg/80 mg: Gliclazide 60 mg/80 mg. Tab MR 30 mg: Gliclazide 30 mg.

Indications & Dosage

Type 2 diabetes: Adults: Adult: Initially 30 mg daily with breakfast, adjust dose according to response every 4 wks (after 2 wks if no decrease in blood glucose); max 120 mg per day. Maturity-onset diabetes: Adults: Initially 40-80 mg daily with breakfast, adjusted according to response, increased if necessary up to 160 mg once daily, doses higher than 160mg to be given in divided doses; max 320 mg per day. Children: Not recommended.

Contraindications

Acute porphyrias, insulin-dependent diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, pre-coma and coma, severe renal or hepaticin sufficiency.

Precautions

Children, avoid if the patient has both renal and hepatic impairment.

Interactions

Miconazole, phenylbutazone, alcohol, insulin, acarbose, biguanides, beta-blockers, fluconazole, ACE in hibitors, H2 receptor antagonists, MAOls. sulphonamides, NSAIDs, danazol, chlorpromazine, glucocorticoids, ritodrine, salbutamol, terbutaline, anticoagulants.

Pregnancy

Contraindicated in pregnancy.

Lactation

Caution advised, avoid.

Side Effects

Hypoglycaemia, dermatological reactions, GI disturbances, brain damage, dizziness.
