DRUGS FOR BENIGN PROSTATIC HYPERTROPHY Selective alpha-1 blocker/ selective 5 alpha-reductase inhibitor GETZ

Composition

Cap/Tab 0.4/0.05mg: Tamsulosin Hcl 0.4mg and Dutasteride 0.5mg

Indications & Dosage

Symptomatic treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH): Adults(male including elderly): One capsule taken once daily approximately 30 minutes after the same meal each day, as a single dose. Children: Not recommended.

Contraindications

Patients with known hypersensitivity to drug, women, children and adolescents, patients with a history of orthostatic hypotension, severe hepatic impairment.

Precautions

Since selective alpha-blockers reduce blood pressure, patients receiving antihypertensive treatment may require reduced dosage and specialist supervision, cardiovascular disease, caution required in patients with prostate cancer and high grade tumours, elderly and in patients with hepatic impairment and renal impairment. Caution required in cataract surgery (risk of intra-operative floppy iris syndrome).

Interactions

Antihypertensives, strong Inhibitors of CYP3A4, inhibitors of CYP2D6 and moderate inhibitors of CYP3A4, Cimetidine, other alpha adrenergic antagonists, phosphodiesterase-5 Inhibitors (PDE-5 Inhibitors), warfarin

Side Effects

Dizziness, impotence, altered (decreased) libido, ejaculation disorders and breast disorders. Rare: Angioedema, Cardiac failure.
