Composition
Inj: Tetanus immune globulin (Human) equiv to 250 units. Inj: Tetanus immune globulin (Equine) equiv to 1500 units
Indications & Dosage
Post-exposure prophylaxis: BY IM INJ: Adult& Children: Initially 250 units, then increased to 500 units, dose is only increased if more than 24 hours have elapsed or there is risk of heavy contamination or following burns. Treatment of tetanus infection: BY IM INJ: Adult & Children: Adult: 150 units/kg dose may be given over multiple sites.
Contraindications
IgA deficiency, interference with live virus vaccines.
Precautions
History of typical reactions to blgod or blood products, risk factors for thrombotic events of acute renal failure. Monitor for adverse reactions and anaphylactoid reactions during infusion.
Interactions
Tetanus immune globulins neutralizes tetanus toxoid and should not be injected into the same site or in the same syringe.
Side Effects
Facial oedema, injection site swelling andpain. Rare Anaphylaxis, arthralgia, buccal ulceration, chest tightness, dizziness, dyspnea, glossitis, tremor
