Indications & Dosage
Treatment of acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections: BY IV INF, OR ORAL: Adult: 200 mg once daily for 6 days, patients should be switched from the IV infusion to the oral route when clinically appropriate.
Administration
Administer IV infusion give intermittently in Sodium Chloride 0.9%; reconstitute each 200 mg vial with 4 ml Water for injections, then dilute reconstituted solution in 250 ml sodium chloride 0.9%; give over approx. 1 hour. Do not mix or infuse with other medications.
Compatibility
Stable in D5W, NS, LR.
Stability
Store at 25C (77F); excursions are permitted between 15C-30C (59F-86F). Protect from light. Keep the infusion bags in the overwrap until ready to use. Protect from freezing.
Precautions
Neutropenia, patients aged 75 years and over, Optic neuropathy; report symptoms of visual impairment (including blurred vision, visual field defect, changes in visual acuity and colour vision) immediately; patients should be evaluated promptly, and referred to an ophthalmologist if necessary.
Interactions
Adrenergic agents, tramadol, non-selective monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI), avoid in those receiving SSRIs, 5HT1 agonists, tricyclic antidepressants, sympathomimetics, dopaminergics, buspirone, pethidineand possibly other opioid analgesics.

Diarrhoea, dizziness, fatigue, headache, nausea, skin reactions, vomiting, abscess, antibiotic associated colitis, arthralgia, bradycardia, chills, constipation, cough, dehydration, diabetic control impaired, drowsiness, dry mouth, fever, GI discomfort, increased risk of infection, irritability, limb discomfort, muscle spasms, nasal dryness, pain, peripheral oedema, pulmonary congestion, sensation abnormal, taste altered, tremor. urine odour abnormal, vasodilation, vision blurred. vitreous oater, vulvovaginal pruritus. Rare: Alopecia, anxiety, haematochezia, hyperhidrosis, hyperkalaemia, lymphadenopathy.
