TROPISETRON (HCL) · by MEDERA

Composition

Cap 5 mg: Tropisetron (as HCI) 5 mg. Inj 2 mg: Per 1 ml: Tropisetron (HCI) 1 mg; 2 ml (2 mg) amp. Inj 5 mg: Per 1 ml: Tropisetron( HCI) 1 mg; 5 ml (5 mg) amp.

Indications & Dosage

Nausea and vomiting induced by chemotherapy: BY SLOW IV INJ OR INF: Adults: 5 mg by slow IV inj or INF shortly before chemotherapy followed by 1 cap each morning 1 hr before food for 5 days. Children above 2 yr: 0.2 mg/kg by slow IV inj or INF shortly before chemotherapy up to a max daily dose of 5 mg. In children under 25 kg, repeat IV administration on day 2 up to day 5 depending on chemotherapy regimen, in children over 25 kg, 5 mg orally on day 2 up to day 6. Prevention of post-operative nausea and vomiting: BY SLOW IV INJ OR INF: Adults: 2 mg dose by slow IV or INF shortly before induction of an-aesthesia. Treatment of post-operative nausea and vomiting: BY SLOW IV INJ OR INF: Adults: One 2 mg dose by IV or INF within 2 hr of the end of an-aesthesia.

Administration

Intermittent or via drip tubing in dextrose 5% or NaCI 0.9% or Ringers solution. Suggested concentrationfor infusion is 50 meg/ ml.

Precautions

Liver impairment, hypertension, cardiac rhythmor conduction disturbances.

Interactions

Rifampicin and drugs affecting liver enzymes or prolong QT interval.

Side Effects

Fatigue, dizziness, headache, constipation, GI disturbance, rarely collapse, syncope, bradycardia, cardiovascular arrest.
