Composition

Inj 15 mg: Verteporfin 15 mg; powder in vials

Indications & Dosage

Photodynamic treatment of age-related macular degeneration associated with predominantly classic subfoveal choroidal neovascularisation or with pathological myopia: BY IV INF: Adult: 6 mg/m2, dose to be given over 10 minutes.

Administration

Administration should be done under the supervision of expert medical practitioners only.The full infusion volume is administered IV over 10 min at a rate of 3 ml/min, using an appropriate syringe pump and in-line filter. Following injection with verteporfin, care should be taken to avoid exposure of skin or eyes to direct sunlight or bright indoor light for 5 days.

Stability

Store verteporfin between 20C-25C (68-77F). Contraindications, Precautions, etc.: See literature.

Avoid extravasation, biliary obstruction, photosensitivity

Side Effects

Flashing lights, hypercholesterolaemia, malaise, nausea, photosensitivity, reduced visual acuity, visual disturbances, visual-field defects, back pain, hyperaesthesia, hypertension, pyrexia, retinal detachment, subretinal, retinal or vitreous haemorrhage, chest pain, macular oedema, myocardial infarction, retinal oedema, vasovagal reactions. Rare: Retinal or choroidal vessel non-perfusion
