RINGERS LACTATE + 5% DEXTROSE · by SHAHZAIB
Composition
Per 1000 ml: Calcium chloride 2H20 0.2 gm, potassium chloride 0.3 gm, sodium chloride 6 gm, sodium lactate 3.1 gm, dextrose (anhydrous) 50 gm; water for injection.
Indications & Dosage
Replenishment of Extracellular Fluid (E.C.F.)to prevent reduced circulatory blood volume and interstitial fluid due to; trauma, scalds, burns and before, during and after surgery: BY IV DRIP INF: Adults: Usual adult dosage is 500-1000 ml at one time by IV drip INF at the rate of 300- 500 ml per hr (about 75-125 drops per min).
Contraindications
Lactacidaemia (lactic acidosis) with severe liver damage.
Precautions
Cardiac failure reduced urinary output due to obstructive urinary tract diseases, hypertonic dehydration, renal failure, alkalosis, lactic acid metabolism disturbances. Sodium Chloride content of this solution is 6.0 gm/litre. Therefore, care should be taken in those cases where salt intake is restricted as in oedema, hypertension etc.
Side Effects
Cerebral, pulmonary and peripheral oedema and dilution acidosis may occur with a large volume and/or acute infusion.
