Composition
Susp 250 mg: Per 5 ml: Sulbactam 125 mg, amoxicillin 125 mg; powder for reconstitution. Susp 500 mg: Per 5 ml: Sulbactam 250 mg, amoxicillin 250 mg; powder for reconstitution. Tab 500 mg: Sul
Indications & Dosage
Susceptible infections of upper and lower respiratory tract, genito-urinary tract, skin & soft-tissue, bone and joints, and Gonococcal infections: ORAL Susp: Children below 2 yrs: 250 mg eight hourly; 2-12 yrs: 250-500 mg eight hourly. ORAL TAB: Adults: 1 tabof 500 mg eight hourly. In severe case: 1 g eight hourly BY IM OR IV INJ: Adults: 375mg- 3gm Sulbactam per day, according to severity of infection, in divided doses administered every 8 hr. Children: 50 mg/kg/day sulbactam, in divided doses administered every 8 hr. See literature.
Contraindications
: Hypersensitivity to penicillins, cephalosporins or other beta-lactams.
Precautions
Hepatic and renal impairment, risk of crystalluria with high doses, all should be well hydrated. Monitor renal, hepatic and haematological function in neonates.
Interactions
Anticoagulants, allopurinol, probenecid, disulfiram, probenecid, methotrexate, oral contraceptives

Side Effects
GI disturbances, nausea, vomiting, constipation, dyspepsia, headache, hypotension, injection-site reactions, hypersensitivity reaction. Rarely hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice, haematological and CNS ef-fects, pseudomembranous colitis, increased INR.
