Indications & Dosage
Susceptible infections of skin and skin structure, intra-abdominal infection, gynaecological infection: BY IM OR IV INJ: Adults: Mild infections: 1.5-3 gm/day (sul-bactam 0.5 gm + ampicillin 1 gm). Moderate infections: up to 6 gm/day (sulbactam 2 gm + ampicillin 4 gm). Severe infections: up to 12 gm/day (sulbactam 4 gm + ampicillin 8 gm), administered every 6 hr or every 8 hr or in less severe infections every 12 hr in divided doses. Children, infants & neonates: 150 mg/kg/day (50 mg/kg/day sulbactam + 100 mg/kg/day ampicillin), administered every 6 hr or every 8 hr (12 hr in neonates during the 1st week of life), in divided doses, normally for 5 to14 day.
Administration
Administer round the clock by slow injection over 10-15 min or by IV over 15-30 min.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to penicillins, cephalosporins or other beta-lactams.
Precautions
Hepatic and renal impairment, risk of crystalluria with high doses, all should be well hydrated. Monitor renal, hepatic and haematological function in neonates.
Interactions
Disulfiram, probenecid, methotrexate, oral con-traceptives.

GI disturbances, nausea, vomiting, constipation, dyspepsia, headache, hypotension, injection-site reactions, hypersensitivity reaction, rash, allergic reaction e.g. serum sickness, urticaria, bronchospasm
