Composition
Cap: Testosterone undecanoate 40 mg.
Indications & Dosage
Male hypogonadism and osteoporosis due to androgen deficiency: Adults: Initially 3-4 daily for two to three wk, adjusting to 1-3 daily according to response.
Contraindications
Carcinoma of the male breast or prostate, hypocalcaemia, impaired liver function.
Precautions
Cardiac, hepatic or renal insufficiency, epilepsy, migraine, hypertension. Large and repeated doses in puberty may cause premature Epiphyseal closure and stop linear growth. Hepatic adenocarcinoma may develop with prolonged use. In women high doses long term therapy produces virilism including irreversible voice deepening.
Interactions
In diabetic patients the metabolic effect of androgen may decrease blood glucose and insulin or hypo-glycaemia agent requirements.
Side Effects
Female: Amenorrhoea and other menstrual irregularities. Male: Gynaecomastia, excessive frequency and duration of penile erections, inhibition of testicular function, testicular atrophy, impotence, suppression of spermatogenesis
